Amelia Alvarez is deeply committed to advocating for workers’ rights. She has assisted in litigating on behalf of clients from a variety of industries and backgrounds. Her experience includes discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, and retaliation cases as well as wage and hour matters.
Amelia joins Alexander Morrison + Fehr LLP as part of her Sanford Heisler Kimpel Public Interest Diversity fellowship. The prestigious fellowship, created by the Foundation for Advocacy Inclusion and Resources, the Legal Aid Society – Employment Law Center (LAS-ELC), and Sanford Heisler Kimpel LLC, enables a new attorney to spend the first half of the fellowship term working at the LAS-ELC and the second half at a law firm affiliated with the California Employment Lawyers Association.
Amelia received her J.D. from the University of California, Irvine School of Law in 2015. During law school, Amelia helped represent clients in multiple law school clinics, including the Immigrant Rights Clinic and the Department of Fair Employment and Housing Clinic. As a clinic student in the International Human Rights Clinic, she assisted in cases before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the District of Columbia.
While in law school, Amelia completed an externship with the Honorable S. James Otero in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. She also received Pro Bono Leadership Awards for her volunteer work, and she graduated with High Pro Bono Honors for completing over 300 hours of pro bono service as a law student.
Amelia received her B.A. in Sociology from Dartmouth College, where she was a member of the Dartmouth Women’s Rugby Club. As an undergraduate, she also received the Meleia Willis-Starbuck Award for Social Justice and Citizenship for her leadership on campus and her work with homeless women and children.
Amelia also speaks Spanish. A native Angeleno, she enjoys rooting for the Dodgers, exploring the city for new restaurants, and reading fiction.
