Alexander Krakow & Glick LLP partner Bernard Alexander was quoted today in The Los Angeles Daily Journal supporting the need for attorneys just starting off in practice to hire experienced co-counsel to ensure they cover all the relevant issues in employment cases. In the article by Melanie Brisbon, Alexander, who is also President of the California Employment Lawyer’s Association, said that “it helps to optimize value if you have a more experienced person there” where an untested lawyer has a case. A senior counsel’s added sources can develop a case more thoroughly and provide an advantage to a junior counsel. “We might hire experts or take depositions that they had elected not to take because they had allocated expenses in other areas,” Alexander said. “We are checking boxes they had not checked.” AM+F is often asked by less experienced counsel to co-counsel with them to help overcome disadvantages typical for newer lawyers. CELA has been encouraging its newer attorney members to team with co-counsel who can front costs for expert witnesses or depositions and advise them on the law and negotiations.
